Reviews

Wedding Singer, Ceremony, Humanist Ceremony, Civil Ceremony, Church Ceremony

Check out what these happy clients had to say about their experience of wedding music with 33 RPM Events.

Matthew very kindly shared this review with us after we played at his fabulous outdoor wedding ceremony in Carlow.

I would highly recommend Emma & Philip. They played at our wedding and were absolutely brilliant. We fell in love with their style when we first saw them perform at my brothers wedding. We had an outdoor ceremony and the acoustics were spot on, they really made those special moments magical. A brilliant combination of musical knowledge and raw talent that compliment each other perfectly!

Anna and Ray got married in Castleknock Hotel. We loved playing at their wedding. It was such a beautiful day.

“We were over the moon to have 33 RPM Events perform at our wedding ceremony. They are unbelievably talented musicians! Our friends are still talking about you guys. Thank you so much!!!”

Michael very modestly describes his dancing prowess from his swelteringly hot wedding in Malta.

“Emma and Philip made our day. They were the icing on the cake and we highly recommend these guys. For someone who has two left feet and fear of the dancefloor their music drove me to feel like John Travolta….class act”

We played at Garrett and Grace’s wedding over in the wonderful Ballymagarvey village. It was a beautiful day, filled with great people and amazing song choices by the couple.

Emma and Philip performed both our ceremony and reception music for our wedding and myself and my husband were blown away. For most of our wedding prep we were based in Toronto and the guys were so great at communication over email.

Ballymagarvey Village. Beautiful wedding ceremony music. Alternative wedding ceremony music.

“The music was definitely one of the big highlights of the day…”

They were always there and ready to listen to what we wanted. On the day they did a stunning job. Their vocals were so beautiful, the music was perfect, and they were absolute professionals which allowed the ceremony to flow perfectly. Their technical set up was also top class. I was so impressed with the quality of sound and their timing through out. My husband, Garrett, is big into his music so it meant a lot that Emma & Philip did such a great job.

They performed renditions of songs that are very special to us and as Garrett says, “The music was definitely one of the big highlights of our day”. After the ceremony they played the perfect set list for our guests during the reception. It created such a special ambience. Philip is a musical wiz and Emma has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. If you work with them, you definitely will not be disappointed.”

Aileen kindly sent us this review having worked with her on a number of events that she has coordinated.

“I have worked with 33 RPM Events for several events and wouldn’t work with anyone else now. They’re in a league of their own when it comes to performance, they’re incredibly talented and keep the dance floor packed. They’re also reliable, enthusiastic and simply the best at what they do. When it comes to weddings or other events I need to know that my band or DJ will arrive, have everything they need and make sure that everyone goes away happy – Emma, Philip and the rest of the team do that…and then some!

Wedding Band or Wedding DJ? Which to choose?

funky wedding and event music

We’ve seen couples post this question tons of times. Trying to choose wedding music entertainment that’s right for you can be tricky.

There are so many different types of wedding music packages available and so many different styles of act to choose from. The most popular combination of music entertainment is still the good old band and DJ pairing. We all know the format: the band plays for a couple of hours and then the DJ takes over, just as Great Aunty Josephine is ready to head off to the resident’s bar for a quiet brandy to get away from all the bangin’ choooonz.

“Decisions, decisions…”

via GIPHY

Sometimes though, this combination will not work for you. Maybe your venue isn’t big enough to allow a full scale band performance or perhaps your budget constraints will not stretch to cover both acts because let’s face it, weddings ain’t cheap!

It all comes down to what you think is most important and what you imagine will make your wedding the night you’ve always dreamt about.

Are you and your guests die-hard musos who love nothing more than seeing a great live band play? Do you and your guests love club nights and checking out the best electronic music in town? Are you Northern Soul vinyl heads who believe their DJs should only spin cold, hard, wax? Or are you the last to be kicked out of Coppers while the Five Mega Mix is blowing the roof and doors off?

via GIPHY

These are the essential, soul-searching questions that might help you identify what type of musical entertainment you would like at your wedding.

“Money Money Money”

via GIPHY

Ah yes, shekels, loot, reddies, filthy lucre! Unfortunately, everything about a wedding costs MONEY. Music entertainment is no different. Quite often couples post something along the lines of:

Like every wedding supplier, musicians and DJs have overheads. These range from travel expenses to the upkeep of instruments and equipment, to studio rental fees for rehearsals and that old cumbersome one: feeding themselves.

When you book a musician to perform at any event you aren’t just paying them for the time that they appear on stage. You’re paying for the transport to the gig, the load-in time to bring in equipment, the time at the end of the night when they take their equipment down and clear the dance floor for those impressive knee slides you’ve been saving for the DJ. The wedding band industry is so competitive that every band is out to give the best possible price they can. This will obviously vary from band to band. Just like plumbers, chefs, and national sporting body CEOs, you get what you pay for, well maybe with the exception of the last one.

At 33 RPM Events we’d be delighted to help you work through all of the big decisions about your wedding music package. Whether it’s a band or DJ we’ll be able to point you in the right direction. Contact us now to chat about your options.

Here Comes The Bride

Wedding Singer, Ceremony, Humanist Ceremony, Civil Ceremony, Church Ceremony

33 RPM Events – Ten Amazing Songs to Walk Down The Aisle To

Imagine the scene: your groom, anxiously shuffling in his place in front of your celebrant. Guests excitedly awaiting your arrival and the first few notes of the song, your very own ‘Here Comes The Bride’ song, that will lead you down the aisle towards the rest of your life begin to ring out.

Choosing the song to begin the most important part of your wedding celebration is super exciting but it can be a daunting task. Here at 33 RPM Events we’ve compiled a list of ten of our favourite songs to walk down the aisle to.

‘How Long Will I Love You’ – The Waterboys

This is a beautiful song written by Mike Scott from The Waterboys. It was taken from their 1990 album Room to Roam. Many people may know the song from Richard Burton’s heartbreaking rom-com About Time. It was covered in 2013 by Ellie Goulding and has been performed at countless wedding ceremonies as many brides have walked down the aisle.

‘Such Great Heights’ – Iron and Wine

This is a song originally released by American band The Postal Service. The version we’ve chosen as one of our favourite ‘Here Comes The Bride’ songs is by Iron and Wine. It’s a dreamy, wistful song that speaks about coming home to the person you love.

‘Here, There and Everywhere’ – The Beatles

This is the the song Paul McCartney believes to be the best he ever wrote. In fact, he says it’s the only song John Lennon ever complimented him on! If it’s good enough to muster praise from a songwriter as competitive as Lennon then it must be a good one. This is one of our favourite Beatles songs and it’s a perfect song to begin your wedding ceremony with.

‘You and I (We Can Conquer The World)’ – Stevie Wonder

This song is taken from Stevie Wonder’s fifteenth studio album Talking Book. This album also featured Stevie’s massive hit, ‘Superstition’. ‘You and I (We Can Conquer the World)’ is an amazing song in which Stevie’s voice soars above a beautifully harmonically rich arrangement. The lyrics are the perfect statement of how, together as a couple, you can beat anything the world throws at you.

‘You’re My Best Friend’ – Queen

We’ve performed this song as both the first song in a ceremony and as the last. It’s a song that works in almost any part of a wedding ceremony. John Deacon, the bassist from Queen, composed this song for his wife while he was teaching himself to play the piano. Writing an all time classic song like this isn’t a bad way to learn a new instrument!

‘Falling Slowly’ – Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard

Long before the broadway smash-hit musical there was a low budget movie, filmed on the streets of Dublin that captured the hearts of millions. Once starred the Frames’ Glen Hansard and musician Markéta Irglová. The soundtrack to the movie was a huge critical and commercial success and this song won the Best Original Song award at the 2008 Academy Awards. The movie became a worldwide hit and a multi-million euro grossing, stage musical emerged following its success. Glen and Markéta’s incredible duet contains all of the elements of magic and romance that made Once, the mega hit it’s become.

‘Moon River’ – Lisa Hannigan and Richard Hawley

This beautiful song has been performed by hundreds of different artists through the years but this version by the incredible Lisa Hannigan with Richard Hawley on guitar is truly outstanding. This version was recorded live at the Other Voices festival in Dingle, Co. Kerry. Richard Hawley’s dreamy guitar playing provides the perfect canvas for Lisa’s magical vocals.

‘Thinking of You’ – Sister Sledge

Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards are two of our favourite musicians. Their music can be heard across the setlist for our amazing party band SOPHISTAFUNK. One of their biggest early gigs was writing and producing Sister Sledge’s album, We Are Family, which included amazing songs like ‘The Greatest Dancer’ and of course ‘We Are Family’. Nile and Bernard were extremely close as friends and writing partners and wrote this song having spent some time away from each other. It’s a perfect piece of music and it would be a really fresh and funky ‘Here Comes The Bride’ moment for anybody looking to spice up their entrance to their wedding ceremony.

’The Voyage’ Johnny Duhan (composer) performed by Christy Moore

We’ve lost count of the amount of wedding ceremonies we’ve either performed or heard this song at. Despite the fact that this song has been used so often as part of many people’s wedding ceremonies it has remained one of our favourites. Christy Moore released his version of this song in 1989 and it became the definitive interpretation of the song.

‘Into The Mystic’ – Van Morrison

‘Into The Mystic’ is taken from Van’s album Moondance. The song is all about two people who share a deep spiritual connection. The relationship in the song is interwoven with nature and all of the mysticism the late 1960s were all about. Glen Hansard has released an amazing cover of this song but our absolute favourite has to be Van The Man’s original.

You can listen to all of our selections on our YouTube playlist.

If you have your own suggestions for your ceremony we’d love to hear them so drop us an email and let us know what you see as being your very own ‘Here Comes The Bride’ song.

Sophistafunk The Ultimate Party Band

funky wedding and event music

Sophistafunk were formed by a group of friends whose love of soul, funk and disco brought them together. Having played in a number of different bands together over the years, this rag-tag bag of musicians decided to form a funky party band that played the music they they loved to dance to, the only way they knew how; with maximum levels of funk.

We carefully picked our setlist and filled it to the brim with the funkiest dance floor hits, brought to life by our amazing lineup of musicians. Our philosophy is simple; great musicians, playing great songs, makes a great party.

Sophistafunk are available in a variety of incredible lineups to suit all budgets and tastes. You can pick our six-piece core lineup featuring, guitar, keyboards, female vocals, drums and one brass instrument or you can customise the lineup to suit your needs and add male vocals, and additional brass musicians to add more harmonies and musical textures to your party.

Our rhythm section of keyboards, bass, guitar and drums are the groove makers in this funky ensemble. The Sophistahorns add some serious storm-force wind to our base layer of funk. They recreate the devastating horn lines that made the sound of Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Prince. Sophistafunk will keep your dancefloor hopping to the funkiest sounds with their decade spanning setlist.

Our vocalists are the icing on the cake. Emma Stack is an award winning vocalist, and Ger Proudfoot is the powerhouse behind legendary Dublin soul band Proudfoot. They bring the story of soul, disco and funk to life, night after night, venue after venue, party after party.
